It's Always Something

I can handle a lot, but don't mess with my sleep.
(Another trait that aligns well with parenting).

They don't tell you that when you become a parent you sign over your ability to obtain good sleep seemingly forever.

We know that babies are frequent wakers and take time to sleep through the night.

But no one goes past that point.
The books don't tell you about the two year nightmares that start once your little one CAN sleep through the night.

Or that once you start potty training your child may be the type that will gladly have an accident to avoid interrupting play time but will scream awake from midnight slumber so as not to soil her nighttime pull up. (I understand that's the ultimate goal of potty training but darling, please, just pee in your pull up)

Having had my two within a 19 month span, this cycle is repeating itself such that once one sleep interrupter is conquered another comes racing up hot on it's tail. When the second baby experimented with sleeping through the night, the two year old developed nightmares. A nd when the newly-four year old finally stopped waking up to pee, the two year old began having the nightmares.

Maybe we'll get regular sleep again one day.
Until then, pass the coffee and the concealer.
